Croatian heritage and culture

Let your heart be lead by the beauty to the truth, this country posses such beauty  that is prove of it s history, people and customs. Very three Croatian regions speek for itself, various and so close led by power and love of it s inhabitants.

Capital of Croatia, Zagreb, is situated on north-west continental region, old 900 years,It is surrounded with houst fary-tail villages and tiny sleepy towns. Periods of baroque, classicism, and secession left traces on this town. Numerous galleries, theatres, museums, churches will leave you busy for days. Little part of subcultural way of living and thinking you will feel through coffe shops, crowded squares, markets and fairs. It is divided on new and old nucleus, in old part main place take cathedral, rebuild during 14, 15 and 16 centuries in Gothic style. Often it is called small Wiena.Varazdin, in history was the capital of Croatia, now known as “ museum of continental baroque”

Continental area is covered with tick woods, hills, vineyards, cousy wooden houses, typical local architecture and open heartedness of local people. Age old castles will lead you back to history. Most of these are located in Hrvatsko Zagorje,...the Trakoscan Castle, Veliki and Mali tabor. Going further on east come thermal springs and spas Daruvar and Lipik. Main, largest town in slavonian region is Osijek. Some call it unconcerned town despite of its long Turk domination. Fortified towns and strong holds are no rarity for Croatia. Osijek has one of the biggest well-known fortification called “ Tvrda”, remainder on many battles against the Turks. Natural beauty of slavonian district is proved once again by parks of nature Lonjsko polje, Papuk, Kopacki rit, numerous fish species, large herds of deer, the last one,Kopacki rit, is rich ornithological place that attracts observes,scientist and curious people, untouched nature seems wield and bit dangerous. South-west from Kopacki rit lies Vukovar and famous Vucedol with 5000 years old culture.

Culinary tradition mostly prefers meet, ham, sausages-kulen and spice dishes at the and all soured with famous strong drink rakija.

     Each town along coast brings another story, from Istria all down to Dubrovnik are many remainders on Roman empire, Tatars, Franconians, Venetian domination and all other emperors and battles, churches, monastery and buildings in various styles, fortifications refreshed with storys and legends. First town on the west side of istrian peninsula is Umag,  world known for ATP tour that is taking place every year. Umag grown from Roman empire, with medieval urban structure. Near sport center and bathing place, Katoro,are ruins of old town Sipar. Location of Umag provides many ship excursions to Venice and Brijuni.

     Going south, on the coast is Porec, rear astonished mosaic can bee seen in Euphrasian Basilica dating from 6 th century. Preromanesque stone monuments are characteristic for this climate, glagolic scriptures- 1100 A.D, frescoes from which one in village Beram, 15 th century Dance macabre is known world wide like the smallest town in the world Hum . South west on coast  spreads national park Brijuni, archipelago divided  into 14 islands, ideal connection of natural and cultural-history values,it is big archeological habitat. On south-western part of Istria, in inner part of bay is situated town Pula. Biggest and important port of this peninsula. Domination position, above the harbor occupies Roman Amphitheater-Arena from 1st and 2nd centuries, it is world sixth largest amphitheater. With numerous temples and churches like illirian hill-forts, Pula is worth of admiring. If you are longing for some happenings in this idyll  Motovun film fest and Jazz festival are events that you should not miss.

      On south Adriatic, under park of nature Ucka, took it s place an old beautiful lady, called Adriatic pearl, Opatija. Visitors come here during all seasons. Old Austro-hungarian villas, beaches, walking places will leave you breathless. Start of touristic epoch in Opatija history was building Villa Angiolina from 1844, main park is horticultural monument in towns center, with over 150 plant sorts that are not tipical for this Mediterranean clime. Little crown around Opatija make small town-beaches Ika, iIici, Lovran also familiar as orthopedic clinic and recovering, medical center. From Opatija side, view stairs to main South Adriatic port Rijeka. Business, industrial and cultural center well connected with other destinations. On main square is symbol of town since middle ages,clock tower and proud on the square of Grivica stands St. Vitus Church dedicated to Rijekas patron saint St Vitus. Rijeka will satisfied every taste, from cultural events to night life, Karneval of Rijeka is third big carnival in World. Geographical configuration is unique so those who want to search and feel real rhythm of the town are invited! If you get bored of city crowed 18 km from Rijeka is real soul asylum,rocky and silent, national park Risnjak. Nearby is sanctuary of God s Mother of Trsat, many Croatian churches are consecrated to Holy Virgin.

     Croatian islands have also typical sacral architecture, many churches hidden in green pine and smell of medical herbs,...across Krk, wine-growing, Rab, Pag, national park Kornati to the supreme beauty of south dalmatian archipelago Brac, Hvar island of lavender and first public theater in Europe, Vis and Korcula. With aim to recognize rich heritage of sword dance, inhabitants of Korcula have sword dance festival, authentic and old 400 years also with popular moreska dance. 

Zadar is surrounded with five national parks,on good position for transfer to other parts of country. First university was open here, churches are in gotik and romanic style. Marascino product from Zadar, in 18 century was on many tables even Napoleon Bonaparte was loyal consumer.

Among historical treasures Split must be mentioned, it grew out of the palace of the roman emperor Diokletian, built around 300 AD and now living history is 1700 years old. If you want to see haven on earth come to Dubrovnik, in southern Dalmatia, unforgettable experience for everyone,…here time is captured. Best preserved fortification system in Europe, never concurred, primal goal of Dubrovnik Republic was trade, in Franciscan monastery-Mala braca is one of the three oldest European pharmacies. This is city city of poets, scientists, writers, immortal verses of freedom written by Ivan Gundulic performed till today on popular Dubrovnik Summer Festival.

Coastline that is full of Romanesque churches, fortified towns, mixed architecture styles all from Istria to astonishing Dubrovnik.
